Robert Drabble AM

Robert was born in c.1847 in Darnall, Sheffield, the son of William Drabble and Harriet Staniforth. It is believed that his father died when he was an infant, and he and his siblings were raised by his mother with the support of her parents, Charles and Mary Staniforth. Little else is known about his childhood. He married Caroline Growdon in Rotherham, Yorkshire in 1863 and they went on to have at least 8 children. Robert died in 1920 with the death registered in Doncaster, Yorkshire.

 

AM CITATION:

THE Queen has been graciously pleased to confer the “Albert Medal of the Second Class” upon Ambrose Clarke, Foreman Sinker, and upon Bobert Drabble, Sinker, in recognition of gallantry displayed by them on the occasion of an accident which occurred in a sinking shaft called Rotherham Main,” situated near Botherham, Yorkshire, on the 7th July last.
