Norman G Breadon EGM
Norman George was one of four children (in fact he was a twin) born to George William Dinley and Violet Nora Breedon (also spelt Breadon). Little is known about his early life in terms of where he was born and raised, though his younger sister was born in Burma in 1905, so its likely his childhood was overseas. What is known is that he enlisted with RAF, and found himself posted to Baluchistan, where he was involved in the aftermath of the Quetta Earthquake on 31st May 1935. Norman returned to the UK and in 1937 he married Caroline Ball in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and they had their first child later that year. Norman was promoted to Corporal and was posted to RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire. Tragically he was killed in an flying accident on 1st July 1938 and was buried at St Andrew’s Churchyard, Cranwell.
EGM CITATION:
Though himself badly injured with cracked rib and collarbone, this airman remained until late in the day attending to injured airmen in the dressing station. He behaved with great gallantry.
