Dr Samuel Walker NZC

Samuel Walker arrived in New Zealand in 1864 from Ireland where he studied medicine at Trinity College in Dublin. He married Jane Tutin Jenkins on 21 June 1866 and the couple had one living child, Emily. Walker became a member of the Wanganui Militia and later, an Assistant Surgeon of the Armed Constabulary. Walker was awarded the New Zealand Cross for acts of bravery during the 1868-1869 campaign but notably at the attack on the position and encampment of Titokowaru at Otautau in March 1869 when he exposed himself to heavy fire.
