DATE OF DM ACTION: 1943 France.

All Alone DM

A blue hen pigeon bred by Mr Paulger in the yard of the Blue Anchor Hotel in Staines, Middlesex, All Alone completed one of the most outstanding flights of the Second World War. Dropped with an agent by parachute into Vienne south of Lyons the pigeon was trained to complete a long haul flight of 481 miles home to Staines. Once the agent had completed his research in August 1943 he attached his message to the capsule around her leg and set her free. Remarkably, she reached her loft less than thirteen hours later.

She received her Dickin Medal in front of 40,000 at the Victory Show at the Royal Horticultural Hall in 1946.
