DATE OF DM ACTION: 1944 Normandy, France.

Attached to the British Airborne Troops, he was selected for missions behind enemy lines in France. At the beginning of June 1944, a group of paratroopers dropped into Normandy with NURP.43.CC.1418 in a small container. She was cooped up for six days and then on 6th June, at 08.37hrs, she was released with a message. She reached her loft at 06.41hrs on the 7th June.

Sadly, NURP.43.CC.1418 did not survive the war and was listed as missing in action after failing to return from France during a later flight, and was never seen again.

 

DM CITATION:

For being the only pigeon to home from British Airborne Units and Paratroops in Normandy operations in less than 24 hours in adverse weather after five days’ detention in a small container.
