Little is known about the life of Rifleman Aimansing Pun of the 116th Gurkha Rifles. He was presented with his Albert Medal at Abbotabad on 17th January 1927.
AM CITATION:
On May 16th, 1926, a party of men were washing their clothes on the banks of a wide river, which by reason of the strong converging currents was extremely dangerous to’swimmers.
Contrary to orders, one of the party Kishanbahadur Thapa, entered the stream, swam out some fifty yards from the bank, was caught by the current and rendered helpless. Although well acquainted with the danger involved, Rifleman Aimansing Pun without hesitation went to the rescue of his comrade and succeeded in getting hold of the drowning man. He commenced to swim with him to the further bank, but his efforts proved ineffectual owing to the violent struggles of Kishanbahadur Thapa, who dragged his rescuer under water. On coming to the surface Pun, whose hold on the drowning man had been broken, could see no trace of his comrade. He reached land only with great,difficulty, in a most exhausted condition.
