David Davis AM

DATE OF AM ACTION: 17/05/1890 Aldershot, Hampshire.

David was the son of John Joseph Davis and Margaret Seabrook, who originally came from Kilburn, and the family lived at 16 Bryer Road. Prior to his military career, David was a carman. On 20th February 1885, aged 19, he enlisted with the 16th (Queen’s) Lancers, and spent the whole of his service in Aldershot and Dublin. On 19th October 1890 he married Julia Byrne in Kingstown, Ireland. They would have four children and lived in Gloucester Place Upper, Dublin. He was medically discharged on 15th June 1891, and little is known about his life after that.

 

AM CITATION:

THE Queen has been graciously pleased to confer the ” Albert Medal of the Second Class ” upon David Davis, of the 16th (Queen’s) Lancers, in recognition of the gallantry displayed by him

in attempting to save life at Aldershot on the 17th May, 1890.
