AM CITATION:

On the 9th April 1918, a serious fire broke out in the residential quarter of the town of Keonjhar Garh, in the Feudatory State of Keonjhar, India. Nearly all the men were absent at work, and a panic arose among the women and children. Mr. MacMillan at once hastened to the scene of the fire, organised parties for fighting it, and by his personal efforts and direction brought it under control. When his work was nearly finished a burning roof fell in upon four men who were assisting to extinguish the fire. Regardless of his own safety, Mr. MacMillan at once entered the building, which was full of smoke and flame, and rescued all four men, one of whom was severely burned. Mr. MacMillan was serously injured, and died on the 19th September following.
