Henry Pickersgill AM
Henry was born in Dudley in 1858 and after schooling, he became a baker and confectioner. On 1st April 1878, he enlisted into the Scots Guards at Wednesbury. He served in Egypt being awarded the Egypt Medal 1882 with three clasps, and a Khedive’s Star. He was married twice, firstly to Elizabeth Burden in 1885, and then to Annie May Harris in 1897. He served with the Scots Guards until 1891 when he transferred to the Royal Scots as a Sergeant Major until he was discharged in 1908. After discharge he lived in King’s Norton, before living in Droitwich, Worcestershire.
AM CITATION:
THE Queen has been graciously pleased to confer the ” Albert Medal of the Second Class” upon Pioneer David Thomas Davis, 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards, and upon Color Sergeants Henry Pickersgill and William Wilson, 1st Battalion, Scots Guards, in recognition of gallantry displayed by them on the occasion of a fire which took place at the Wellington Barracks, London, on the 12th November last.
