Very little is known about John Smith AM other than the action which led to his medal. It is known that he was left with severe burns, and also received the Order of St John’ s Silver Medal for the rescue.

THE Queen has been graciously pleased to confer the “Albert Medal of the Second Class ” upon John Smith,.for gallantry in endeavouring to save the life of Benjamin Stanley, at the Norfolk Works, Sheffield, on the 18th May last.
