William E Yaldwyn AM

William Yaldwyn was twice decorated for gallantry in rescuing people from floods in Queensland. At Dalby on 28th August 1879, he saved a Mrs Lese from drowning and was awarded the Royal Humane Society’s medal. He was an accountant for the Queensland National Bank at Charleville at the time of the incident. On 1st July 1889 he married Catherine Jane Smith and they had two children. He died in New Guinea in 1902.

 

AM CITATION:

THE Queen has been graciously pleased to confer the ” Albert Medal of the Second Class ” upon Mr. William E. Yaldwyn, Accountant of the Queensland National Bank at Charleville. in the Colony of Queensland, in recognition of the conspicuous gallantry displayed by him in rescuing six persons from a flood at Charleville, on the 26th July, 1886.
