Duncan McPollard EM

DATE OF EM ACTION: 30/07/1915 Ardeer, Ayrshire.

Duncan was the youngest of six children born to James and Jane McPollard, and was raised in Glasgow, Lanarkshire. By the time of the 1901 Census, he was boarding with the Harkins family, living in Torpichen, West Lothian, where the now 20 year old Duncan was working as a colliery labourer. Little is known about Duncan’s life followjng the events at the Nobel Explosives Company in Ardeer, Ayrshire in 1915.

 

EM CITATION:

His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to award the Edward Medal of the first class to James Burt and Arthur Frankland, also the Edward Medal of the second class to Duncan McPolland on account of their gallant conduct on the occasion of an explosion which occurred at the works of the Nobel Explosive Co., Ardeer, on the 30th July, 1915.
