Very little is known about William Thomas Oxenham, a miner at the Simmer and Jack Mine in Germiston, South Africa on 15th March 1910.

 

EM CITATION:

On  March  15th,  1910,  Mr Oxenham  went  to  the  rescue  of  a  white man  and three Kaffirs who were overcome by  fumes  ofpoisonous  gases.  He  descended  a  mine  60  feetdeep   and   3500  feet  from   the  surface,  and  was successful  in  bringing  all  in  safety  to  the  surface with  the  exception  of  one  Kaffir.
