Cecil Herbert Whiffen EM

Cecil was the son of Charles Augustus Pybus and Frances Whiffen (nee Alner) born on 3rd June 1869. He was baptised on 26th September 1869 in Raneegunge, Bengal, India. Little else is known about his life except that he married Kathleen Alice and they had two daughters, Winifred and Florence.

His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to award the Edward Medal in Silver to Mr. Cecil Herbert Whiffen and Sirdar Bideshi Kol, also fhe Edward Medal to the miners, Rupai Kol and Suku Kol, and to the timber carpenters, Jadu Kol and Bhudu Kol, for their gallantry in rescuing on the 3rd March, 1917, two men imprisoned through an accident in the Gorangdih Colliery in India belonging to the Burrakar Coal Company.
