Jeremiah Z Brown MOH
He enlisted in the 148th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and was mustered in as 1st Sergeant of Company K on September 7, 1862. After receiving promotions to 1st Lieutenant (November 15, 1863) and to Captain and company commander (July 31, 1864), he went on to perform a feat of bravery on October 27, 1864 during the Siege of Petersburg, Virginia, that would see him awarded the CMOH. Jeremiah Brown led his men though the rest of the conflict, received a brevet of Major, US Volunteers on December 2, 1864 (backdated to his October 27, 1864 act of bravery), and was honorably mustered out on June 1, 1865. On June 22, 1896, almost thirty two years later, he was awarded his Medal. He was one of four 148th Pennsylvania Infantry soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Civil War
MOH CITATION:
With 100 selected volunteers, Brown assaulted and captured the works of the enemy, together with a number of officers and men.
