John Harties Brown MOH

b. 1834 New Brunswick, Canada. d. 30/01/1905 Washington DC.

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 30/11/1864 Franklin, Tennessee.

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as Captain and commander of Company D, 12th Kentucky (Union) Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864. His citation reads simply “Capture of flag”. His Medal was issued on February 13, 1865. He, along with Corporal Oliver Hughes, were the only two members of the 12th Kentucky to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the war.
