Henry Brutsche MOH

b. 31/10/1846 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. d. 27/12/1880 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 31/10/1864 Plymouth, North Carolina.

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the Union Navy as a Landsman and entered the service in Pennsylvania. He was awarded the CMOH on General Order Number 45, dated December 31, 1864. His citation reads “Served on board the USS Tacony during the taking of Plymouth, NC, 31 October 1864. Carrying out his duties faithfully during the capture of Plymouth, Brutsche distinguished himself by a display of coolness when he participated in landing and spiking a 9-inch gun while under a devastating fire from enemy musketry.” He was originally interred in Monument Cemetery, Philadelphia Pennsylvania. When the cemetery was closed down, he was re-interred in Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge, Pennsylvania in 1956.
