James Byrnes MOH

b. 1838 Ireland. d. 09/02/1882 New York.

DATE OF MOH ACTION; 10/01-11/01/1863 Fort Hindman, Arkansas.

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Master’s Mate in the Union Navy. He entered the Navy at New York and was awarded the CMOH as a Boatswain’s Mate and the General Order Number was 11, dated April 3, 1863. The place of action was Fort Hindman, Arkansas on January 10-11, 1863.

 

MOH ACTION:

Served on board the USS Louisville. Carrying out his duties through the thick of battle and acting as captain of a 9-inch gun, Byrnes consistently showed “Attention to duty, bravery, and coolness in action against the enemy.
