James Isaac Christiancy MOH

b. 1844 Monroe County, Michigan. d. 18/12/1899 Washington DC. 

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 28/05/1864 Hawes Shops, Virginia.

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Monroe County, Michigan, he served as a First Lieutenant in Company D, 9th Michigan Volunteer Cavalry, Union Army. At the Battle of Hawes Shops, Virginia, May 28, 1864, First Lieutenant Christiancy acting as a senior officer’s aide, voluntarily led a platoon of cavalry troopers into the Confederate lines and was twice wounded. For bravery in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on October 10, 1892.
