Robert M Cox MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as a Corporal in Company K, 55th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Vicksburg, Mississippi on May 22, 1863. His citation reads “Bravely defended the colors planted on the outward parapet of Fort Hill”. His Medal was awarded to him on December 31, 1892. He was one of nine 55th Illinois Infantry soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Civil War (the others being 1st Lieutenant John H. Fisher, Chaplain Milton L. Haney, Musician Orion P. Howe, Corporal James W. Larrabee, Private Robert A. Lower, Private Jerome Morford, Private Jacob Sandford and Corporal John Warden).
