Patrick H Doody MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Ireland, he immigrated to America and joined the 164th New York Infantry Union Army, in August 1862. Serving as a as a Corporal at the Battle of Cold Harbor, Virginia, on June 7, 1864, he led a successful personal reconnaissance. He also led the skirmishers in a night attack, charged on the enemy positions enabled pioneers to move forward and put up works for the Union forces in advanced positions. He mustered out with his regiment in July 1865, at the rank of First Lieutenant and was awarded the Medal of Honor for gallantly in action on December 13, 1893. he died at age 83 in Woodside, New York.

 

MOH CITATION:

After making a successful personal reconnaissance, he gallantly led the skirmishers in a night attack, charging the enemy, and thus enabling the pioneers to put up works.
