American Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was issued the award on June 17, 1865, for his actions as a private in Company C, 17th Indiana Volunteer Mounted Infantry Regiment, US Army, in April 1865, at a battle of Culluden, Georgia, between the Wilson’s Raiders (Union) and the Worrell Grays (Confederate) forces, His Medal of Honor citation simply reads: “Capture of flag of Worrill Grays (C.S.A.).” He was presented with his Medal on June 17, 1865.
