Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Austria-Hungary as Albert Wadas, he served in the United States Navy under the name of “Albert Vadas” during the War with Spain as a Seaman on board the “USS Marblehead”. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during the cutting of the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898. His Medal was awarded to him on July 7, 1899.

On board the U.S.S. Marblehead during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Vadas displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this period.
