Alexander Mack MOH

b. 17/05/1834 Rotterdam, Netherlands. d. 25/09/1907 New London, Connecticut.

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 05/08/1864 Mobile Bay, Alabama.

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as Chief Boatswain’s in the Union Navy. Very little else is known about his life.

 

MOH CITATION:

On board the U.S.S. Brooklyn during successful attacks against Fort Morgan, rebel gunboats, and the ram Tennessee in Mobile Bay, on 5 August 1864. Although wounded and sent below for treatment, Mack immediately returned to his post, took charge of his gun, and, as heavy enemy return fire continued to fall, performed his duties with skill and courage until he was again wounded and totally disabled.
