Alfred Ransbottom MOH

b. 1831 South Zanesville, Ohio. d. 14/04/1893 Springfield, Ohio.

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 30/11/1864 Franklin, Tennessee.

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in South Zanesville, Ohio, he served as a First Sergeant in Company K, 97th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Union Army. In the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee, November 30, 1864, during the assault on Confederate forces, First Sergeant Ransbottom in hand to hand combat, captured the flag of either the 2nd or 5th Missouri CSA. For bravery in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on February 24, 1865.

 

MOH CITATION:

Captured the flag of the 2d Mississippi Infantry (C.S.A.), in a hand-to-hand fight with the color bearer.
