DATE OF MOH ACTION: 11/05/1898 Cienfuegos, Cuba.

Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Norway, he served in the United States Navy during the War with Spain as an Ordinary Seaman on board the “USS Marblehead”. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during the cutting of the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898. His Medal was awarded to him on November 2, 1899.

On board the U.S.S. Marblehead during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Olsen displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this period.
