Archibald Freeman MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as a Private in Company E, 124th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Spotsylvania, Virginia on May 12, 1864. His citation reads simply “Capture of flag of 17th Louisiana (C.S.A.)”. His Medal was awarded to him on December 1, 1864. He was one of five 124th New York soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for their bravery during the Civil War (the others being Sergeant Thomas W. Bradley, Private Nathan M. Hallock, Corporal George W. Thompkins, and 1st Lieutenant Lewis S. Wisner).

After the war, he moved to Limestone County, Texas, where he married Orena A. McBay. They seem to have had six children, two daughters, and four sons. They had five of their children that lived to adulthood.
