DATE OF MOH ACTION: 30/07/1864 Petersburg, Virginia.

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant Major in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Sergeant in Company D, 3d Maryland Infantry for action at Petersburg, Virginia on July 30, 1864. His citation reads “Picked up a shell with burning fuse and threw it over the parapet into the ditch, where it exploded; by this act he probably saved the lives of comrades at the great peril of his own.” He did not receive the Medal until April 4, 1898.
