b. 05/08/1843 Groveland, New York. d. 08/05/1899 Mendon, New York.

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 02/03/1865 Waynesboro, Virginia.

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a First Sergeant in Company G, 8th New York Cavalry for action on March 2, 1865 at Waynesboro, Virginia. His citation reads “Capture of flag.” He received the Medal of Honor on March 26, 1865. He later became a newspaper editor in Honeoye Falls, New York.

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Sergeant Charles Arthur Goheen, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 2 March 1865, while serving with Company G, 8th New York Cavalry, in action at Waynesboro, Virginia, for capture of flag.
