Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. His true last name was Sanscrainte. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company B, 15th Michigan Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on July 22, 1864 at Atlanta, Georgia. He did not receive the Medal until July 25, 1892.

 

MOH CITATION:

Voluntarily scaled the enemy’s breastworks and signaled to his commanding officer in charge; also in single combat captured the colors of the 5th Texas Regiment (C.S.A.).
