Charles J Murphy MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as First Lieutenant and Quartermaster of the 38th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the First Battle of Bull Run, Virginia on July 21, 1861. His citation reads “Took a rifle and voluntarily fought with his regiment in the ranks; when the regiment was forced back, voluntarily remained on the field caring for the wounded, and was there taken prisoner”. His Medal was issued on April 5, 1898.
