Charles P H Heyl MOH

Indian Wars Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Army during the Wars with the Plains Indians as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 23rd United States Regular Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery near Fort Hartsuff, Nebraska, on April 28, 1876. His citation reads “Voluntarily, and with most conspicuous gallantry, charged with 3 men upon 6 Indians who were entrenched upon a hillside”. His Medal was awarded to him on October 26, 1897. He eventually rose to the rank of Colonel and Inspector General before his retirement.

Voluntarily, and with most conspicuous gallantry, charged with three men upon six Indians who were entrenched upon a hillside.
