Conrad Homan MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He enlisted in the Union Army at the age of 21, and was mustered in as a Private in Company A, 29th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry on May 21, 1861. He was serving as an acting Color Sergeant at the July 30, 1864 Battle of the Crater near Petersburg. His citation for the award reads “Fought his way through the enemy’s lines with the regimental colors, the rest of the color guard being killed or captured.” he served through the end of the war, received a promotion to 1st Lieutenant on May 6, 1865, and was honorably mustered out on July 29, 1865 at Tennallytown, Maryland. He was awarded his Medal on June 3, 1869.

 

MOH CITATION:

Fought his way through the enemy’s lines with the regimental colors, the rest of the color guard being killed or captured.
