DATE OF MOH ACTION: 11/03/1862 near Brunswick, Georgia.
Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the Union Navy in Massachusetts. He obtained the rank of Acting Masters Mate. He was awarded the CMOH for action on March 11, 1862 near Brunswick, Georgia. He was presented the CMOH on June 1, 1863 off Wilmington, North Carolina, aboard the USS Steamer Sacramento, presented by Capt. Charles S. Boggs. His citation reads “Harrington, a landsman from the USS Pocahontas, participated in a shore mission to procure meat for the ship’s crew. While returning to the beach, the party was fired on from ambush and several men killed or wounded. Cool and courageous throughout this action, Harrington rendered gallant service against the enemy and in administering to the casualties.”
