Edward Brown Jnr MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. At age 20 he enlisted in the 62nd New York Volunteer Infantry on August 14, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company C. After being promoted to Corporal on February 15, 1862, he fought in the May 3 and 4, 1863 Battle of Chancellorsville, where his distinguished service and bravery would see him awarded the CMOH. His official citation reads “Severely wounded while carrying the colors, he continued at his post, under fire, until ordered to the rear”. He would go on to be promoted to Sergeant on October 15, 1863, and would be honorably mustered out on September 22, 1864 after three years service in the field. His Medal was awarded to him on November 24, 1880, seventeen years after his act of bravery.

Severely wounded while carrying the colors, he continued at his post, under fire, until ordered to the rear.
