Edward Joseph Sullivan MOH

b. 16/05/1870 Cork, Ireland. d. 11/03/1955 Grafton, Massachusetts.

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 11/05/1898 Cienfuegos, Cuba.

Born in Cork, Ireland, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the War with Spain as a Corporal on board the “USS Marblehead”. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during the cutting of the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898. His Medal was awarded to him on July 7, 1899.

 

MOH CITATION:

On board the U.S.S. Marblehead during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Sullivan displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action.
