DATE OF MOH ACTION: 03/05/1863 Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Entered the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company G, 2nd Vermont Volunteer Infantry on June 20, 1861. Served throughout the War with his regiment, which was part of the illustrious First Vermont Brigade. Fought at the Battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Mine Run, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cedar Creek. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of Company G on August 8, 1864, then to Captain and Company commander on December 24, 1864, and was mustered out of Federal service on July 15, 1865. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia on May 3, 1863, during his Corps assault on Marye’s Heights in Fredericksburg. His citation reads: “Carried the colors to the top of the heights and almost to the muzzle of the enemy’s guns”. His Medal was issued on December 13, 1893.
