Francis Irsch MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Captain in the US Army in Company D, 45th New York Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 1, 1863. His citation reads “Gallantry in flanking the enemy and capturing a number of prisoners and in holding a part of the town against heavy odds while the Army was rallying on Cemetery Hill.” He did not receive his Medal until May 27, 1892.
