George F Pond MOH
Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was enrolled in the 3rd Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry, and was mustered in on December 27, 1861 a Private in Company C, a unit that had his older brother James Burton Pond as its 2nd Lieutenant. He would go on to render distinguished bravery at Drywood, Kansas on May 15, 1864 that would see him be awarded the CMOH. His Citation reads “With 2 companions, attacked a greatly superior force of guerrillas, routed them, and rescued several prisoners”. His Medal was awarded to him on May 16, 1899, thirty-five years later. He was honorably mustered out of service on February 17, 1865.
