George H Plowman MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served during the Civil War as Sergeant Major of the 3rd Maryland Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery at Petersburg, Virginia on June 17, 1864. His citation reads “Recaptured the colors of the 2nd Pennsylvania Provisional Artillery.” His Medal was awarded to him on December 1, 1864. He eventually became an officer, and was promoted to Captain of the regiment. He was one of five 3rd Maryland soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Civil War (the others being Captain Joseph F. Carter, Sergeant Benjamin F. McAlwee, Sergeant George Schneider, and 1st Sergeant Bernard A. Strausbaugh).
