Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Corporal in the Union Army in Company G, 1st Maine Veteran Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on March 25, 1865, at Fort Fisher, Petersburg, Virginia. His citation reads “The color sergeant having been wounded, this soldier picked up the flag and bore it to the front, to the great encouragement of the charging column.” He was presented with his Medal on June 22, 1885.
