Gotfred Jensen MOH

Philippine Insurrection Medal of Honor Recipient. A native of Denmark, he was issued the award on June 6, 1906, for his actions as a private with Company D, 1st North Dakota Volunteer Infantry, US Army, on May 13, 1899, at San Miguel de Mayumo, Luzon, Philippines. He enlisted in the US Army just prior to the outbreak of the Spanish-American War and was sent to the Philippines, and remained there during the Philippine Insurrection. A member of Young’s Scouts, he was one of thirteen Scouts awarded the Medal between 16 and May 19, 1899. He did not receive the Medal until June 6, 1906.

 

MOH CITATION:

With 11 other scouts, without waiting for the supporting battalion to aid them or to get into a position to do so, charged over a distance of about 150 yards and completely routed about 300 of the enemy, who were in line and in a position that could only be carried by a frontal attack.
