Mexican Campaign (Vera Cruz) Medal of Honor Recipient. He was in the United States Navy. He served as a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class. He received his Medal on January 6, 1915 on the deck of the USS Florida at the Brooklyn Naval Yard from the Secretary of the Navy, Josephus Daniels.
MOH CITATION:
On board the U.S.S. Utah, Nickerson showed extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession during the seizure of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 21 April 1914.
