Medal of Honor Recipient. Henry was born in Manchester, New York, and enlisted on August 28, 1862, at Phelps, New York, to serve three years. He mustered in as a private, Co C., on September 14, 1862, and was promoted corporal on September 1, 1864. He was captured in action on October 27, 1804, at Fair Oaks, Virginia, where he later died. His remains were not recovered; this is a cenotaph.
He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his action on September 29, 1864, at Chapin’s Farm, Virginia. His Medal was awarded posthumously on April 6, 1865.
MOH CITATION:
With two comrades, took position in advance of the skirmish line, within short distance of the enemy’s gunners, and drove them from their guns.
