Jacob G Orth MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served during the Civil War as a Corporal in Company D, 28th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Antietam, Maryland (September 17, 1862). His citation reads “Capture of flag of 7th South Carolina Infantry (C.S.A.), in hand-to-hand encounter, although he was wounded in the shoulder”. He was also wounded in the leg at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia (May 3, 1863). His medal was awarded to him on January 15, 1867.

 

MOH CITATION:

Capture of flag of 7th South Carolina Infantry (C.S.A.), in hand-to-hand encounter, although he was wounded in the shoulder.
