Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Private in Company K, 83d Indiana Infantry for action on May 22, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. He did not receive his Medal until August 13, 1894.
