Jacob Sanford MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as a Private in the 55th Illinois Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Vicksburg, Mississippi on May 22, 1863. His Medal was awarded to him on September 2, 1893. He was one of nine 55th Illinois Infantry soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Civil War (the others being Corporal Robert M. Cox, 1st Lieutenant John H. Fisher, Chaplain Milton L. Haney, Musician Orion P. Howe, Corporal James W. Larrabee, Private Robert A. Lower, Private Jerome Morford and Corporal John Warden).
