James McNally MOH

b. 1839 County Monaghan, Ireland. d. 26/11/1904 Sawtelle, California.

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 22/08/1868 Black Mountains, Arizona.

Indian Campaign Medal of Honor Recipient. He was awarded the nation’s highest honor serving as a First Sergeant in Troop E, 8th U.S. Cavalry for action in the Arizona Territory in the vicinity of the Black Mountains from August 13 through October 31, 1868 and in 1869. He was issued the medal on September 6, 1869. He also served in Troop D and Troop G, U.S. Cavalry prior to receiving the Medal. He died in Los Angeles Soldiers Home after being transported from Kingston, NM where he worked several mining claims.
