James P Lannon MOH

Mexican Campaign Medal of Honor Recipient. A 1902 USNA Graduate, he served in the 1914 Vera Cruz, Mexico Campaign as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery on April 22, 1914. His citation reads “For extraordinary heroism in battle, engagement of Vera Cruz, Lt. Lannon assisted a wounded man under heavy fire, and after returning to his battalion was himself desperately wounded”. His Medal was awarded to him on December 4, 1915. He served in the US Navy until his retirement in 1947 with the rank of Rear-Admiral, and was awarded the Navy Cross and Purple Heart during his service.

 

MOH CITATION:

For extraordinary heroism in battle, engagement of Vera Cruz, 22 April 1914. Lt. Lannon assisted a wounded man under heavy fire, and after returning to his battalion, was himself desperately wounded.
