DATE OF MOH ACTION: 21/09/1864 Fisher’s Hill, Virginia.

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Corporal in the Union Army in Company D, 23d Illinois Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on September 22, 1864 at Fisher’s Hill, Virginia. His citation reads “Capture of flag.” He received his Medal on October 6, 1864.

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private John Creed, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 22 September 1864, while serving with Company D, 23d Illinois Infantry, in action at Fisher’s Hill, Virginia, for capture of flag.
